A new roof isn't just about what you can see from the street. That's the part most homeowners focus on - the shingle color, the curb appeal, the clean lines. And those things matter. But what's happening underneath and along the ridge line is just as important, and it's where a lot of contractors cut corners.

We're doing a full roof replacement on this home using Owens Corning Duration Designer shingles. These aren't your average three-tab shingles. The Duration Designer line gives you a thicker, more dimensional look along with Owens Corning's SureNail Technology, which locks each shingle down in a way that holds up much better against wind and weather. For a Michigan home, that matters a lot.

Here's what we want to talk about though - the ventilation. We're setting this roof up with a proper intake and ridge vent system, and that combination is something a lot of companies skip because it adds time and cost to the job. But without it, you're trapping heat and moisture in the attic. That leads to premature shingle failure, higher energy bills, and potential damage to the roof deck itself. A roof that looks good but breathes poorly is going to cost you more in the long run.

Getting the ventilation right is part of doing the job right. Balanced airflow in, airflow out. It protects the shingles, protects the structure, and keeps the home performing the way it should year after year. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every roof replacement we do.
